Social Media Marketing 101 For Business Results

Social Media Marketing SMM can have a huge positive impact to your business. We’ve seen businesses boom through purely social media marketing promotions.

SMM strategies differ from platform to platform and every marketing strategy should differ based on business & marketing goals. However some tips below are great to remember when you are planning your social media strategy and trying to grow your audience and building your social platforms.

Some tips to help you grow your social channels today;

1. Know your audience – CUSTOMER first always wins!

The most important thing you can do in business is to understand your customer.

Who are they? What do they like? (literally what are their interests, hobbies, passions) What brands do they connect with? Why? What are their drivers and decision making patterns?

Develop customer profiles (preferably segmented) which will help you tailor your marketing to your audience effectively.

2. Understand Your Industry & Trends.

There is so much happening every second on social media. Staying up to date and across your industry can be impossible, but locking time aside to do a monthly scrape at the very least can allow you to utilise opportunities.

3. Think Outside The Box – Be Creative!

Don’t blend in, social media is a place to show uniqueness and stand out. Create content that reflects your unique brand and connects* with your audience.

4. Promote Your Unique Sell Point USP.

Who are you and why should I do business with you? Tell and show people the WHY of your business. That is what is truly unique and sets you apart from your competitors.

5. Build a Community.

Community is an overused word when it comes to social media, but that is where the power is. If you can build a community the rest is history. A community has trust and that is the most powerful brand business tool.

6. Set S.M.A.R.T Goals.

Set goals you want to achieve and measure how you perform. There is a world of opportunity waiting for you. Remember to be fluid, learn as you go and adapt to what you see working and improve where you can. Consult experts and those with experience in what you are trying to do.

Why this all matters? See the opportunity and some global statistics below.

Other helpful tips:

1. Have a clear schedule of posts that is consistent each month. When your posting is consistent it will allow you to get maximum impact of your brand messages and build brand trust with your audience. It also makes it easier to plan and effectively use time.

2. Have template designs, where you can, use templates and update them when needed, websites like Canva make this easy for non designers and apps like StoryLuxe make it easy for Instagram stories.

4. Use customer content when you can. Repost in places like your story to keep your accounts active and showcase real people.

5. Instagram aesthetic rule of 3/3; work on scheduling content that works in groups of 3, this is the rule to build an Instagram. This means you group similar style posts in 3 so visually it flows and gives the best impact when you hit the page.

6. Hashtag where appropriate, research competitors and what is popular or trending in the hashtag world.

7. Commit to quality or a consistent standard. High quality content keeps a brand at a ‘professional’ and ‘inspirational’ which has bee hugely successful for many brands.

8. Provide value to your audience. By showing thought leadership and expertise where you can your audience will connect with you and be more likely to show engagement and convert into a customer.

9. Page like campaigns are something that you can run on Facebook when you are in the process of growing your audience. Keep in mind you don't want to buy 100K of followers or rely too much on page like campaigns because you need authentic customer connections to grow in the big picture.
